What is Micropigmentation?

Micropigmentation is an innovative way of placing or replacing color in your skin. Also known as permanent makeup, permanent cosmetics or medical tattooing, micropigmentation allows you to wake up with perfectly defined lips, beautiful brows and expressive eyes.  Micropigmentation can be used to camouflage scars, burns and vitiligo as well as to give your nipple-areola complex a more realistic appearance following breast surgery.

During your consultation, Jessica will discuss your needs and select a pigment color that will be right for you. The pigment color will be implanted in your skin with a motorized instrument containing sterile needles. The needles will reciprocate rapidly in and out of your skin.

You are a good candidate for micropigmentation if:

  • You have a desire to eliminate time-consuming cosmetic application.

  • You have an active lifestyle and want a waterproof, perspiration proof solution to cosmetics.

  • You have loss of eyebrows or eyelashes due to disease, trauma, genetics or aging.

  • You want to correct facial asymmetries.

  • You are allergic to conventional makeup.

  • You have visual impairments or loss of motor skills that make the application of cosmetics difficult.

  • You have had breast surgery and you want to restore color to your nipple-areola complex.

  • You have had hair transplant surgery and want to camouflage scalp scars.

  • You have a desire to camouflage other scars, burns or vitiligo.

Treatment Types

Permanent Makeup

Permanent makeup can be performed to cosmetically enhance the eyes, eyebrows and lips with the precise placement of color in the skin. Pigment can be placed on the eyelid margin to create the appearance of fuller lashes and more defined shape. Pigment can also be placed in the skin to create the appearance of eyebrows, to better define the shape of the brows or make them appear thicker. Pigment can additionally be placed on the edge of the lips to better define the lips or completely cover the lip to provide long lasting color.

Nipple-areola pigmentation

Nipple areola pigmentation is often performed following breast surgery. The placement of color on the nipple-areola complex can camouflage scars following breast augmentation and breast reduction and correct size, shape or symmetry of an existing nipple areola complex. Following breast reconstruction, micropigmentation is used to create a natural looking nipple-areola complex. During the consultation, Jessica will choose a shade of pigment that will match your natural nipple-areola complex. Often the color selected will be deeper in color than the final desired color to accommodate fading over time.

Camouflage scars, burns, vitiligo

Until recently, patient with scars in their skin or scalp have had to rely on a daily application of camouflage make-up, sprays or powders to disguise these depigmented scars. Micropigmentation has been proven to be a safe, effective and more permanent camouflage alternative.

Micropigmentation is a relatively simple, safe and painless procedure. However, as with any invasive procedure, there is a possibility of complications, including but not limited to, infection, swelling, bruising, rash, tenderness and a reaction to the pigment or anesthesia. Although thousands of procedures have been successfully performed with virtually no complications, Jessica my advise against micropigmentation due to a medical condition which may increase a risk factor.
The most common misconception about micropigmentation is that it is permanent. It is permanent in that it will not wash off like conventional cosmetics. But it is not permanent because it will eventually fade over time. Fading can occur from one year to ten years, it varies from one person to the next. Each patient is different, with a different chemical composition so the same color will look different on several different patients.

Micropigmentation has enhanced the lives of of thousands of people, providing new hope to many who have suffered traumatic illness, accidents or medical conditions that affect their appearance. Micropigmenttion has also simplified the daily cosmetic routine of many busy and elderly patients.
